Could DNA confirm and help discover our past?

After exploring all the paper trails available. I managed to confirm the live as far back as 1674. But then the paper trail went dead.
Initially, I felt that’s the end of the line. But then I discovered DNA which opened up a whole new possibility.

Ancestry DNA

Being on a budget, this was the most accurate I could find on a budget. My aim was to pursue my fathers line and the name Locke. But this was a good way to see if that was even going to be possible at this time. This revealed a number of options and matched. It uncovered my mothers side where I found some early BBC documentary on my great grandfather from the 60s.

Ancestry DNA results

The results showed mostly England and Wales. This was obvious. But the curious part was the 2% and 1% Middle East and Etheopia/Entrea DNA. Especially as my DNA matched with 2 individuals of Middle Eastern links the strongest. They were actually my mothers cousins. The link cam from my grandfather and great grandfather. So even tho only few percent was show. It was quite a significant part of my mothers side.

Y-DNA

The Paternal line passed only from father to son.

As it stands, I haven’t done any Y-DNA test yet, but using the ancestry DNA, I was able to find some aspect of a connection with a few people in America. Looking at the paper trail, I suspect this is from the 16/1700s. Though i’m yet to confirm this

Speaking with the guys in America, it’s clear there is alot of research results available. But our link appears to reveal earlier records that even we haven’t explored yet. I suspect we will need to research ship logs from the very first American settlers that sailed over from the UK.
